The Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department staff provides progressive leisure, organized sports, and cultural and educational programs to the township. It protects our natural resources and offers outdoor recreational opportunities to members of the community in a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment. The staff provides innovative and quality services to residents, businesses and service organizations in Shelby Township.

Because they are so popular, some of the recreation offerings at the Shelby Township Activities Center have capacity limits. To ensure access to the activities and programs you want, we ask you to book your time via the link(s) below. Home School Classes: Pond Life

    Homeschool Classes

Our homeschool curriculum is designed to immerse students in nature while teaching various topics in ecology and history. This 90 minute program is offered to children ages 4-12 years of age. Upon arrival, students will be split into age-appropriate groups so that program content is effective and engaging. An adult is required to attend and supervise their child(ren). A large portion of every class will be conducted outdoors, so please dress accordingly. $4 per resident child / $6 per non-resident child.

    Pond Life
We will meet at Holland Ponds (50385 Ryan Rd) to explore the history and ecology of this restored superfund site. By dipping for macroinvertebrates, participants will use organisms found to gauge the health of the ecosystem. We will also discuss metamorphosis of frogs and other aquatic life.
